Juggling It All ?

For all my friends juggling it all : Don't be discouraged by the sheer volume of 'stuff' to get done. Choose one area to work on and ......

Take small bite.
Chew well.
Swallow.
Repeat.

Nail Cutting Made Simple

Delicate FingersImage by Chiceaux via Flickr

Got kiddies ? Establishing routines saves your precious mental energy. In our home Sunday is nail cutting day. We either take 5 minutes first thing in the morning or right after Sunday evening bath time when nails are softer.

Keep those so-tiny-they-get-lost-in-one-second nail scissors
in the same safe hiding place ( think jewelry drawer ).

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah systems ...... it's the fast lane to sanity.

Cull Your Closet Part IV

We've made some progress in setting up an organized closet .... now let's talk about upkeep. We need to focus on what you're going to bring in to your fresh and fabulous closet that may upset the balance.

Consider saying 'no' to .....

Hand me downs from cousins, sisters and friends that are too good to throw - be selective !
Dumping piles of clutter
Impulse buys of clearance items.

Only invite those items into your closet that you LOVE.

Good luck changing your closet habits. Go get 'em !

It's All About Retrieval

It's all about retrieval. If you can't find it, then you don't have it. Have less in your home, buy less stuff. Store similar items together. Create order and systems. When you have order in the home and can pull out an item at a moments notice, then you truly own the item and it doesn't own you.

Organizational 'Must Have' of The Week

Williams-SonomaImage via Wikipedia

Williams Sonoma you are my friend. My fancy well - heeled friend. Normally you are just above my budget but this item is a great investment.

You have invented happy folding measuring cups that are pretty and fold down to fit into my tiny drawer. I've had my set for over 6 months and I love them. They make me smile and are practical and durable. Well done William.

Keep One Pen Continued ...

For the past two weeks I have been urging you to keep one pen in a fixed place and return it there again and again.

A table set for two people.

I promised that there was a method to my madness ... so here it is.

Essentially having one pen and taking the 4 steps of :

1) finding it a good location
2) retrieving it
3) using it
4) returning it

is fundamental to running a streamlined home or office.

By using an item again and again but knowing where it's 'home is' enables us to live with less and be even more functional with our items that those who have many items.

Think it through. Now, I urge you to look around your home and keep an eye out for clutter.
All clutter is is items that are not following the above system.
Look at the item and decide if it is worth your time investment, if it does, then repeat the 4 steps above. It's not as fun as leaving items around the house, but it is a highly sought after habit.
